BOIDS.EXE (boids10.zip) version 1.0. BOIDSCRN.SCR (boiscrn.zip) version 1.0. Copyright 1995/96 Jurgen Schmitz - System Design Ancona - Italy These programs are Freeware! They are Windows3.1(TM) implementations based on Craig W. Reynolds 'boids' project. 1) 'boids10.zip'------------------------------------------------- As i am interested in Alife and Genetic algorithms i developed 'boids.exe' for fun and experience during vacancy in August '95. To install 'boids.exe' unzip boids10.zip to a (new) unique directory. The installation does not!!! alter or create any other file on your computer. boids10.zip contains: about.txt - the old! readme file boids.exe - the windows executable nuvola8.bmp - background bitmap 256 colors nuvola24.bmp - background bitmap true color To uninstall 'boids' delete above files. Make sure to have recent versions of 'BWCC.DLL' and 'CTL3D.DLL' installed! They are needed by the Dialog Boxes only. If you have a 'slow' computer select 'Setup' in the 'Option' menu and set the birds count to smaller values. I have not written a manual or a help file, but i think the programs features are self explaining. Try to change the birds parameters or to run an optimizer session and/or simply enjoy the birds(boids) flying! The program was developed using Borland C++ 4.02. 2) 'boidscrn.zip'------------------------------------------------- Since the 'boids.exe' program had a great download success i prepared also the screen saver version 'boidscrn.scr'. To install 'boidscrn.scr' unzip boidscrn.zip to your screen saver directory ('\windows' or '\windows\system'). The installation does not!!! alter or create any other file on your computer. >From the Control Panels Desktop item select 'boidscrn.scr' as your screen saver application; use the setup dialog to change the default settings - in this case 'boidscrn.ini' will be created in your windows directory! boidscrn.zip contains: boidscrn.scr - the windows executable To uninstall 'boidscrn.scr' delete the file and 'boidscrn.ini' if exists. -------------------------------------------------------------------- If you are interested to have more information about Artificial Life and Genetic Algorithms have a look at: Welcome to ENCORE! http://alife.santafe.edu/~joke/encore/ For suggestions you can reach me via e-mail at: schmitz@fastnet.it J^nrgen Schmitz
